When Brandywine YMCA made the difficult decision to close its
satellite facility and warm-water therapy pool three years ago,
volunteers and staff vowed to raise the money to build a pool at
the main branch in West Brandywine.
That dream became a reality in 2007 when the YMCA reached its fundraising goal and completed construction of the warm-water
therapy pool just off the pool deck. The 344-square-foot pool
features seating and exercising areas, along with a hydraulic lift
for non-ambulatory persons to enter and exit.
The Y’s therapy pool offers structured and unstructured activities
that help adults to decrease pain, increase joint mobility and muscle
flexibility, improve endurance and tolerance to activity, improve
muscle strength and tone, and improve circulation and respiration. The therapy pool is also a great place to simply relax and unwind.
Special thanks to the donors that made the therapy pool possible:
Stewart Huston Charitable Trust, Marshall Reynolds Foundation,
Robert & Jennifer McNeil, Brandywine Hospital,
Curt Schroder (DCED Grant) and M. Cynthia Quinn.
