The Program
The H.I.P. (Health Intervention Program) Kids is for children ages 8 and up who are at risk of becoming, or who are, overweight or obese (85% or above BMI for age category).
This 8-week program meets twice a week and is led by fitness and nutrition experts. H.I.P. Kids features individual and group sessions that educate children and parents about behavior modifications that improve nutrition and increase physical activity. The program uses an asset development approach that builds self-esteem, seld confidence and self control.

• Individual pre and post program fitness evaluations
• An analysis of the child’s diet
• Individualized, weekly goal setting & feedback
• Two 30-minute exercise sessions per week
• A weekly 30-minute behavior modification/group
discussion session
• A weekly 30-minute parent-only nutrition session
• A weekly 30-minute parent/child nutrition session
• Weekly home assignments that help children to apply their new skills to their everyday situations. |

Childhood obesity is a serious health issue that is contributing to an increased prvalence of diabetes, asthma and hypertension in children. Overweight and obese chidren have a 79% change of beoming overweight or obese adults. The YMCA of the Brandywine Valley's H.I.P. Kids Program identifies the environmental, behavioral, dietary and physical activity factors that contribute to children's weight issues and health risks. Our professionals then offer education and support that leads to a healthier lifestyle for kids and families.
