Red Brick Players History
It all started in 2001 when Jim Norton, a retired Coatesville English teacher, directed the children's musical Annie Jr. with the Octorara Community Recreation Commission (now the YMCA) in Cochranville. The play was a huge success, owing to the hard work and dedication of the twenty-eight cast members, crew and parents. The Children's Summer Theater Project was active for seven years and ultimately became a Governor's School of Excellence, a thrilling testament to the quality of the program
As a result of the success of Annie Jr., community members approached the Octorara Community Recreation Commission about forming an adult theatre group, and word went out that folks with theater skills (acting, singing, dancing, music, costuming, set building, stage lighting) should come together. They did, and the Red Brick Players were formed, taking their name from the old red brick West Fallowfield High School, which is their home. The first production, Something's Afoot, a musical mystery with a cast of nine, sold out with full houses, rousing applause and uproarious laughter.
